I am going to a local gun show looking for a complete upper.  What is the going price of some you guys have seen at shows?

By complete upper I'm assuming you mean with barrel, handguards and everything (an upper half).  Unless you are talking about a complete upper only, which would mean it comes with sights (if A1 or A2), forward assist and ejection port cover only.

A complete upper half assembly could run from $350 to $1500 depending on how it was set up and who manufactured it.  At Jacksonville, Fl shows, basic uppers with non-freefloat handguards, standard barrels and sights run between $375-$550 new,  You may have to add $100-$120 for bolt/carrier assembly.  Some of the higher end upper- halves with fluted match barrels, Rails, Backup sights can really get high in price.  It depends on what you want.

Upper receivers only run right around $100-$150 depending on the flavor, A3, A1, A2, National Match A2 etc.

Things can vary too depending on the local market in KY.  J&T is out of KY and they have reasonable prices in their catalog and on the net.  I don't know if they run show specials or not.  They a range of upper halves from basic in the $300 range, without Bolt/carrier group, on up to $1489 for LMT MRP uppers.

Check out the link to PK Firearms above.  They have decent prices that you can use as a baseline, with a lot of different options.  I say, if you can find better prices for comparable products at the show, go for it.

Crossroad shows are getting so expensive here in Phoenix that I wouldn't go to the show for just an upper.  The cost of admission and parking will negate any deal I might find.

Now going for fun, or for something out of production that you can't just order up, that is different, but I wouldn't expect to save any money going to a gun show for only that.  I lost interest in "browsing" gun shows a while ago.  The whole zip-tie thing ruins it.

Just my 2 cents.

Being retired and living on a fixed income I too think gun show promoters are pricing themselves out of a job. I have found the internet firearm sites to be a great alternative. But I still like to go to a gun show occasionally.
