I have heard that you can shoot multiple calibers out of the same lower.  From 5.56 to .50 Beowolf.  All you need is an upper with the caliber you want and the magazines to go with it.  Is it really that simple or is there something else to it.

If that is the case what is different in the upper reciever?  Is it just the bolt and barrel?

I am about to start my first build (I want to build a long range shooter in .308) and just want to get the facts straight.  I have a POF-416 lower that is in the 7 day waiting period and a LaRue Steath upper that is in the mail.  Can I just order a bolt and barrel in the caliber I want, put it in the LaRue upper and go shooting?

Thanks

I guess the question is, can I build a .308 AR using my POF-416 lower and my LaRue Stealth upper?

No, the magazine well is not large enough, along with other issues. You need an AR-10/LR308/SR-25 size receiver for .308. You can do .22, .223/5.56, 6.8, 6.5, .300 Whisper, 7.62x39, .50 Beo, .458 SOCOM, and pistol cals out of the standard (plus more I didnt list). Anything based on the .308 case or case head size is too big.

Hmmm.  I think I am going to go with the 6.5 Grendel.  Anybody recommend a good barrel?   Do I need anything else besides a 6.5 barrel?  Different bolt?

Thanks

For a 6.5 build you will need a 6.5 barrel, and a 6.5 bolt, that should be all for the upper, possibly buffer. Magazines for the lower.
