I have read many threads here and the one that seemed most complete was written in 2003. I am hoping there is some new information or new products out there that will meet my needs. I am building a 9mm AR on an RRA 223 Lower. I am using Colt SMG mags which, as i understand it are the same as 9mm AR mags. I need a mag block that will hold the bolt open after the last round and do it every time. I would prefer that the block secure into the mag well with set screws or detents as this will be a dedicated 9mm.

Has anyone found a mag block that works this way?

Thanks!

Try posting in the Rim fire and Pistol section about this.

If I understand you, the only mag block that will suit all of your needs is actually a Colt two piece.  The only other option is a dedicated Hahn mag block but it is not held in place by set screws.

If you want to go the colt route, the best thing for you to do might be to buy a Colt 6450 complete, otherwise it will be a fairly expensive proposition.  You can find colt mag blocks every now and again on the equipment exchange and very rarely a colt lower half.  But after you have found the colt two piece mag block, you have to find a gunsmith to put it in for you.

The Hahn dedicated mag block will hold the bolt open after the last round and it uses the colt magazines.  However, unlike the colt mag block, it doesn't have to be pinned into the lower receiver.  Most everything I have read about it is positive and it is the route I chose to take.  I am just waiting on a upper receiver.

The Hahn dedicated mag block is what your looking for.

Thanks Guys!!! Just out of curiosity, if I get a stripped 9mm lower from Colt, RRA, or MEGA would it have the mag block installed or is that part of what is stripped out?

+1 Hahn dedicated mag block.

I bought a RRA stripped 9mm lower and it doesn't have the mag block.

I got my Hahn (except mine is a non dedicated top load) mag block from Brownells.
