OK...this is really simple and frustrating at the same time.  Trying to fit A2 handguards to a Colt A1 upper circa late 70's.  The front handguard cap is triangular, but I thought that was OK.  The A2 handguards came from Bravo Co.  I can not get them to fit no matter how hard I try...even using a handguard wrench.  I've never had a problem with Colt handguards and interchangeability.  Are aftermarket handguards dimensionally pretty variable?  Are there tricks to get them to fit.  I've shaved a bit from the handguard "tabs" using a Ex-Acto knife, but I don't think I am even close right now.

I can use the issue triangular handguards, but prefer the round handguards for use.  Any advice or links would be great right now.  Beginning to "hate" this upper....

TIA.

You may have to simply cut a notch in the front of your handguard, where it meets the front cap.

Should be a "drop in" fit.

Lay your A2 next to the A1 is the handguard length the same.

Every 20" I ever saw w/ std Hanguards had a triangle cap. Some had slip rings and some had delta rings.

eta:

A2 are top bottom mount.

A1 are left right.

Understood.  I'll do some comparing of my uppers and A2 handguards when I have some time.  Maybe the set I got from Bravo is visably too long or something.  The other 20" handguards all fit on just fine and I never even needed a handguard wrench to get it done.

Got it done.  It just took some time and cajoling.  Never seen such a tight handguard fit until now, but it should be OK.  Need to get to the range and sight-in.  Thanks for the encouagement.  Next AR project...what shall it be?
