Ok, I have a bushmaster m4a3 with pinned and spot-welded over compensator. (don't come off) I'd like to install a YHM flip front sight w/o lug. This leaves me with this problem, the barrel is larger at either end than in the mid area where the FSB is. In other areas of the forum hammers are discussed and savage poundings to remove FSBs. Once I do get the pins out then what? I want to avoid destroying my front sight, anyone know something about this BFI design?

You'll have to cut the original FSB off. Most folks use a Dremel. Or have the muzzle brake removed, then the FSB removed and the muzzle brake reinstalled.

That's what I figured but was hoping for a magical solution. Someone can removed welded on compensators? Are they brazed on or something, please explain.
Thanks

Some permanently attached muzzle devices are pinned and then the pin is welded over. ADCO Firearms and AR15barrels.com are two site supporters who provided this service.

If you want to go with the YHM clamp on folding FSB then your easiest, less expensive option would be to cut the FSB off, then install the YHM FSB.

Sending off the upper to have someone remove the current muzzle device simply to remove the issue FSB, then have to re-install a muzzle device, in my eyes is not worth the hassle.

Cut your FSB on both sides with a Dremel cutoff wheel but only 2/3's the way through. This will keep you from nicking the barrel with the cut off blade. Then use a cold chisel in the cut notch to knock off the bottom portion of the FSB. This and some masking tape around the barrel should keep the finish intacted.

Very cool, thank you gentlemen. I'll probably never want the fsb after I have my flip sight anyhow, lol. When I'm done I can experiment with the left over cut parts and maybe weld on some tabs to put a through bolt in thus setting it up like the yhm sight. Can't break what's already broke right?
Thanks Again, Andy.
