(I've taken pics, but I can't find the USB cable for the camera anywhere right now, I'll post them soon...) Received the assembled upper and LPK from Del-Ton around 18:15 this evening via UPS. Fortunately both kids had just went down for a nap, so I unpacked everything and busted out the lower build guide I had got from here. By 19:45 (EST) I had a complete rifle! Everything went together exactly as stated. No missing parts. No extra parts. The DPMS lower receiver held everything in place perfectly. The Vise-Grip method worked great on the bolt catch, and I used a generous amount of tape on the plier jaws, so there's nary a nick on the receiver. (edited to add weight info) The rifle weighs in at just under 8lbs.,4oz. without a magazine on my uncalibrated kitchen scale, 9lbs.,4oz. on the nose with a loaded 30rd Center USGI mag. Should be very comfortable to shoot, but I'm not going to be doing any long hikes with ithanks Matthew, NC |

Matthew, I'm looking forward to seeing the pics. Del-Ton should have my kit to me on Thursday or Friday and I hope mine goes as well as yours did. From what I understand, Del-Ton will shortly have a storefront. Wish I lived as close to them as you do. Then again, maybe it's a good thing that I don't. Don |

Yes, it's a Del-Ton kit. The 20 inch rifle kit, with about "standard" everything, except I paid extra to have the A2 top, instead of the flat top. The lower receiver is DPMS, purchased locally through my friendly neighborhood FFL dealer, and the lower parts kit came from Del-Ton with the upper. Total cost, with taxes and shipping is just under $634 for the rifle (in case anyone's interested...), which was just over my intended build cost of $600. Everything seems to operated fine, but I won't really know until I get it out on the range for test firing. Hopefully this weekend. Matthew |

DeerGeo, Thanks. I agree, DTI are good people. I'll definitely be doing more business with them, and seeing as how they're only like an hour's drive from me I might have to make my next purchase in person, if they have a storefront now/soon. Xterra, I'll defer expert recommendations on the kit to those around here with much more experience than I have, as this is my first AR, built or otherwise. In my opinion everything just seemed to drop into place perfectly. I may be prejudiced towards DPMS because of all the fine looking weapons they have in their ads, but the receiver seemed to be very high quality and met all my expectations. The DS ones look fine as well, but I'm partial to the panther on the side of minehe While you, or any first timers are reading up on things here you may feel a little apprehensive about your first build, particularly the lower, with so many little parts, but it goes together quite easily if you pay attention to detail. I printed out the assembly procedures here over a week before I received the kit, and I almost could have assembled the LPK with out the manual. I made it a point to really not only know what each part was, but what it's function was, and when I had everything laid out on the counter it just all made sense. I can't take credit for the upper, since DTI assembled and test fired it, I just set it on the lower I assembled and slid the pivot and takedown pins home. Hopefully I can get to the range on Saturday to start sighting in, and I've been reviewing the procedures for the "Improved Battlefield 50 yard Sight-in" so I'll know what to do at the firing line without looking like too much of a tool with my new rifle. If all goes as well as the procurement and assembly did I should be quite happy. Rhyno45, Howdy! Where about are you located? Leland here, SE NC, by Wilmington. Finding a public range round these parts is the pits! CA may have sucked for its unfriendly view of guns, but Sacramento had some great facilities in the area. The Sac. Valley Shooting Center by Ione, CA was great. Might be about the only thing I miss from there... well, that and good Mexican food. BBQ out here is fantastic, though. Matthew |

WooHoo! I'm happy to report I just got back from the range and the new A2 worked flawlessly! I haven't invested in any bulk ammo (yethe I can say that I'd definitely recommend Del-Ton for a first time builder. The customer service was top notch, the kit went together as advertised and the gun worked great! Matthew Leland, NC |
