[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Punch sizes

What size punches do I need of whole AR and how many sizes are there?

I was at Sears today and the sets that they do have, some seem too large. I don't need the big ones in a set. Why pay for them when I don't need them.

1/16" , 3/32" , 5/64" , 1/8" Sometimes Sears here has the same punches seperate in a white display box and they are less than half price of the ones in the rack. Usually have to get the 5/64 gas punch for the gas tube pin somewhere else.

Should you use brass punches or can you use the alloy steel??

I've seen somewhere that it was recommended to use brass punches...

Just found this set at Cabella's. I think I'm going to pick this set up tonight online. Looks good to me...see link below...

I Use roll pin/split pin punches from Brownells. Material Steel, they have a little bump to hols the punche in the center of the roll pin.
