I read about a lot of people who file and/or machine various stainless parts in their guns. Doesn't stainless require special care in order to prevent contamination from non-stainless tools? For instance, if I use a standard file to remove some burrs on a stainless frame am I going to start getting rust in that area? |

News to me. A file is harder than the stainless you are working with.... I dont think you are impregnating the stainless with enough high carbon steel to cause rust.... and if it even did - that would be a tiny amount of sacrificial steel oxidizing anyway. Some stainless steels will rust on their own... all will oxidize given the right conditions. We machined stainless all the time... and used the exact same tooling on mild steel, 4140, aluminum, bronze, etc... most of the time. |
