I know this may be a dumb question, but I'm new to my AR 15.  In the picture there are two grooves.  Are they supposed to be there?

Thanks,  I finished putting it all together and started breaking in the barrel.  While cleaning it I just noticed the grooves.  I couldn't remember for the life of me if they were there before I started shooting.
