Hello all, I have a post-ban rifle that I wish to add a bayonete lug equiped FSB, and A2 flash hider to. How would I go about doing this. Can I use a standard tap and die set to thread the barrel myself? Is it possible to replace the FSB?. I would appreciate links to a tutorial on either of these subjects if you know of any. Also who sells FSBs? Thanks, Nate W |
| I replaced mine with a 2 piece flip-up FSB from Yankee Hill. The removal of the FSB was a pain beacues one of the pins would not budge. I had to dremel it out, ruining the FSB. But it didn't really matter since I was replacing it anyway. There is a good tutorial for removing the FSB at the top of the DIY page. |

Unless you have the capability to turn the barrel down, it would be best to send the barrel off to get this work done. The end of the barrel (@1/2" or so) needs to be turned down before it can be threaded. With a good punch and a heavy hammer, the FSB pins can be driven out but some are a real pain in the ass. A new FSB can be had from a variety of vendors for $20.00 to $30.00. I just got one but had to return it because the pin holes did not line up. A 1/2x28 thread kit will cost about $50 to $60 unless you rent one. If this is a "one time" deal for you, I would send the barrel off to ADCO or AR15barrels, etc. |
Odd that the old timers above negleted to mention the "tacked" thread atop the BUILT IT YOURSELF forum, which will show you step by step how to to replace your FSB............![]() Here ya go: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782 mike |
