I've been shopping around for an upper receiver and I've noticed that Bushmaster seems to be less expensive compared to a lot of other companies (RRA, LMT, DPMS, STAG, etc).  Is the quality of the machining just not as good as the "smaller" companies?

Have there been past issues with Bushmaster receivers?  Any negative rumors or anything like that?  I remember reading a post about a slightly "bent"unnamed receiver (can't remember if it was lower or upper) ... ie. not completely straight/lined up... or was that just an urban legend in the AR community?

Thanks for answering a Newbie's questions.

Bushmaster is actually my favorite AR because of their quality.  My first AR was built on a PWA lower and I had nothing but problems at first, my buddy bought a Bushy and I just LOVED shooting the damn thing compared to mine.  I replaced the lower internals I had in my PWA with Bushy parts and my problems (doubling) went away.

Bushmaster's my favorite make of AR.  Granted I've only shot AR's from either them, built on PWA lowers, or Colts.

Bushy is usually on par with Stag and RRA pricing.  its a quality build...many parts in Bushmasters come from the same assembly line as Stag and RRA.

If you're talking about getting a complete top end, the only thing better than Bushie (sometimes) is Colt, Since all my ARs, except for one, are totally home built, I buy upper receivers from other sources because Bushmaster is too expensive w/their uppers, but for barrels it's either Bushie or Colt. I do prefer Colt bolt/carrier assys, though.

Considering that many of the other brands use a lower quality steel in their barrels, Bushmaster is a better value for at or about the same price.
