I recently finished completing my first lower using a LPK from Model1 and a Stag stripped lower.  Every thing seems to have worked out well except the safety selector. It does not positively engage between the fire and safe selections. I have re-assembled this several times with no real improvement. It seems that the detent pin is not engaging the recessess on the selector due to length or because of the rebated lip in the recess on the receiver. Any help on this would be appreciated.

About a 1/4", the spring seemed to match up with the pics in the how to post very well as far as, how much spring was left showing before installing the grip.

I'm guessing you inserted the pointed end of the detent first
Might try stretching the spring out a little bit.
I had to cut a bit off of mine last night when I put a Magpul MIAD grip on, couldn't budge the selector !

It is also common for the receiver to have trash or burrs here.  Simply remove safety, install detent and grip.  Does the detent protrude substantially?  If not - then clean it out till it does - or you might have an oversized detent.

I was also having issues on my last build from  this.   it was my hogue grip sticking out a little too much not allowing the selector to sit at the right angle thus letting it not sit right.  i shaved it down and made sure the travel was right.

take off your handle and just use you hand holding the spring up into the reciever.  see if the safety functions right. if not,  you need to clean up the place where the detent rests in the selector switch or clean the hole and check for clearance in the hole leading to the selector.

The detent spring goes into the receiver at 90 degrees to the bore line.  But the grip screw goes in at 45 degrees.

What you should to is push the grip up vertically into position, then tighen the screw.  But so often we pull the grip into position with the screw.  What this may, and often does, is crimp the spring, pinching it between the grip and lower receiver.

This may result in the safety being very difficult to manipulate, or being "loose".

Remove the grip, check the spring, possibly replace the spring, and reinstall.

Thanks for the input guys, I ended up taking a 1/8 bit and chasing out the recess for the detent pin until it would fall easily into place. After re-assembling it worked fine
