Can someone give me a run down of the essential tools that are needed for working on AR's? Thanks |

with a little ingenuity, there are really only a few tools that you really need. my first ar i built i put together with whatever i could use for the specific task. 6 guns later, its just easier to have the right tool for the job. Here is what i have sitting in my AR toolbox: Armorers wrench (DPMS) upper receiver vice block (Model 1 Sales) (along with lower block, but i never use that) Armorers castle nut wrench a couple sets of nice punches Handguard removal tool Channel Lock snap ring pliers Gas Tube Wrench These will make it easy, but again, it can be done with less. Of the items above that i used on my first build........ the armorers wrench. everything else was McGuyver'd. |

I don't suggest skimping on tools. At a minimum, to do most basic work correctly you will NEED: 1/8 and 3/32 flat punch 1/8 and 3/32 roll pin punch Barrel / stock / FS wrench (this one is the best) www.olyarms.com/?rootView=browse&view=dtl&ids=h28 flat screwdriver small, ball peen or similar hammer Bolt carrier carbon scraper tool (more for cleaning I guess) pivot pin detent tool (trust me) Kroil in little needle oiler bottles Receiver blocks and vise (if you want to remove the barrel) I would highly suggest: 1/8 and 3/32 Roll pin holders Broken shell extractor tool front sight adjustment tool dentist picks gas tube wrench bolt ejector tool handguard removal tool Eventually pick up as your gun gets older: Chamber mirror firing pin protusion guage go/no go/ field headspace guages |
