| I replaced a standard FSB with a YHM fold down front sight/gas block a while back. The AR has functioned flawlessly since. Problem is that the front sight must be off (the rear sight has to be turned to the right to correct - slight - I have an ARMS 40). Is there a guide/shortcut/tool that you can do to ensure that the sight is properly lined up with the rear sight and over the hole in the barrel for the gas system? How does the factory line up the FSB? |
Welcome to the boards. ![]() When a normal front sight base is installed at the factory they have a special fixture that clamps everything in place and keeps it all aligned while the holes for the pins are drilled. There are some tools available that can be used for alignment but they are kinda pricey unless you're going to be doing this often. One trick that you can use is to take a piece of thread and tie a loop in one end. Put the loop around the front sight pot and feed the other end through the small aperture of your rear sight and pull it tight. There should be a small line on the rear sight that indicates the center and you need to keep the thread aligned with that. You can then sight down the thread and it should run down the center of the barrel and the receiver. This works best with a longer gas system and especially works best if you are using a carry handle so that you can see that the thread is straight in the channel on top. |
