I just installed a yhm flip front sight last night and after I got done I noticed that it doesn't fully cover where the old front sight was on the barrel. Since this area is unfinished, won't I have a possible corrosion problem there? (it rains a lot here) anyone else have this problem? Also note the roll pin I installed, not too pretty. Lining up the gas tube properly was giving me some problems.

Corrosion\Oxidation are a problem everywhere. If you keep it clean and well lubed it might help a bit, but exposed steel is very prone to rust.

I recently installed that very same block and found it to be very trouble some.

There would always be a gas leak showing on the block. I hope ot works and you post again saying it works wonderfully so i can give mine another try.

Personally, I'd take a bit of Gun-Kote and finish up the barrel if you were worried about rusting.

It boils down to how much you are wanting to spend on covering those two strips of bare metal.

Have it shipped and re parked? would be costly. almost to a point a new barrel might be a thought.

Or spend 20 bucks and spray it and bake it.

I just installed the same block/sight on my carbine a few weeks ago and noticed the same thing. But here in the humidity of the south I've long since learned to keep all my weapons protected with a good quality oil/lube type rust preventative. Even "stainless steel" guns will rust in this environment.
You can take the block back off and apply one of the cold blue touch-up products and that will help some and make it look better but you'll still have to keep it protected.
FWIW, I havn't had any gas leakage problems with my block/sight so far. I think it works great........Later,B.

I have been thinking about putting something like that on mine, but the only thing that shy's me away from it is... How in the hell do you make sure it's straight?? It's either that or cut my front post down, and install a flip sight on my handguard??

I think I may put the old one back on, but I have had trouble getting the gas tube back out of it, I think I may need to get a replacement

I installed one on my homebuilt upper with not too much fuss.  Getting it straight was a booger, but once it is and torqued, no problems.

well I can't get the pins back in for the old sight so it looks like I'm stuck with this one, looking stupid like it does with no finish on the barrel

.750 diameter of the barrel and it's a RRA CAR a4. This was my first attempt at doing anything to it and as for right now I have a non functioning rifle when I had a perfect one the other day, So I'm pissed at myself for screwing it up. I havent even put 100 rounds thru it and I kind of messed up the pin slots on the barrel.

The pins are harder than the barrel.
Just hammer them in and they will iron out any burrs as they go.
RRA uses straight 1/8" pins so you can also take a drill bit and deburr the openings of the holes in the barrel.
I would not go all the eay through though as you might open up the bore and then you really WOULD have a problem.

As for alignment, I use a ground rod that snaps into a carry handle when I am aligning clamp-on front sight bases...
