I just changed my front site base and put on a gas block with a flip-up site. Now I can't seem to get the suppressor back on correctly. Its a A2 5 slot type on a Bushmaster bbl. I also got a new crush washer.  My problem is how to hold the bbl securely enough to tighten the suppressor without damaging the barrel. Do I need a barrel vice or is there an easy way to do this without buying a lot of extra tools. Thanks......Later,B.

I'd just clamp it in the bench vise with padded jaws, and have at it.

How many degrees is it off from TDC?

I'd just use a peel washer if I were you.  Some guys smack the crush washer with a hammer to get it closer to a Top Dead Center torqing.

You can also lap the crush washer on a stone until it is close to indexing and then torque it.

Thanks for the advice and I may try to "pre-crush" the crush washer a little. But I still need to know how to hold the barrel while I torque on the suppressor. What kind of padding would work best in the bench vice if thats really the way to go? Thanks again.....Later,B.

Try making a poor man's barrel jig.  Take a 4" long 2"x4" and drill a hole slightly smaller than the barrel dia. length wise all the way through.  Then using a table saw rip the wood down the center of the drilled hole.  Now you have 2 halves that should capture your barrel in the vise without marring it.

I just sandwich the FSB in two pieces of soft pine wood in my vise and crank on the FH.  I don't know how that would go with a flip-up FSB, however...
