Hello Everyone. I'm getting ready for my next build and I was thinking something in a more traditional A2 upper. However, I still want to free float the barrel. Does anyone know of someone that makes a FF that has the look/feel of the standard plastic handguards?

If that doesn't work out I was contemplating a rifle length quad rail (or maybe building two). Who's got that lightest out there?
YHM has a 14.75oz

Thanks,

Seems to me what you want is a DCM/CMP handguard tube. These are freefloat tubes that take the A2 handguards. I'm not up on who has what of this style but they are easy to find. I pretty sure Bushmaster has them. Probably Armalite too. There are also custom makers too. Check out the Highpower forum somewherer around here for more info. It is what those guys use.

The best CMP style A2 tube is made by White Oak Armament ( around $100 ).  The float tubes used in service rifle competition are not light and are steel tubes to handle the tensions placed on the tube when competitors sling up in the supported positions...

Hmm, found out that Rock River makes an A2 FF model too. I certainly understand wanting to add weight on a CMP type competition rifle, but that's not the direction I want to take this build. If I can't find a light A2 type FF I will just use the carbon fiber FF from Clark I have hanging around.

Bushmaster and Brownells carries that particular setup.

I've seen them in person, pretty sweet setup.
