is there anyway to get rid of the tuning fork effect of the vortex flash hider? I'm starting to wish i had put a different flash hider on my build.

Not that I am aware of, but this FH looks similar and from what I know doesn't make that sound Saylor FH

As I understand it, part of the reason the vortex works so well is due to the fact that it acts like a tuning fork.  I assume this has something to do with turbulance, but then college Physics was quite some time ago.

Vortex twang?

I've had one for seven years and have yet to notice anything.

ETA: Are you hearing it or feeling it?  I think what you are probably noticing is the buffer spring.

It really does exist for some I guess, I have had the same experience as you but many others do report it exists.

I've experienced it as an ever so slight bell like tone after I tap the vortex.  I don't even notice it when actually firing.

It is noticable when I am handling the weapon without hearing protection but when ever I shoot mine I have hearing protection on and don't notice it at all. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the twang, but I am not too worried about it.

I have the Vortex blind pinned on two separate 1/7 twist 14.5" M4 bbls.  They both make the tuning fork sound when fired.  I think the sound is cool.  I can't say if it helps with bbl harmonics, but they both shoot well.  You can especially hear it when fired under shelter.

WHAT? Damn, forgot to turn up my hearing aid. Nope, never hear it. Tuning fork, eh. If ya get a bunch of 'em together, can ya harmonize!

Lost my keys, my eye sight's going... Now it seems my hearings going too. It's hell getting old.

A "twang"? I thought that was a southern thang!

I don't notice it, though when struck against an object, it does "sing".

If you actually shoot your gun, you will no longer notice the clang of your Vortex, or the Sproing of your buffer spring.  If you continue to fondle your piece in your basement and never fire live rounds, you will never get around this percieved issue of sound.  Of course, you will never need to purchase pants, either, because tighty whiteys are uniform of the day for the basement sound police.

What a baited troll question for a team member......  You should be ashamed.  Such troll questions are supposed to be posted under your troll account with less than 25 accumulated posts.

Yes, you defaulted yourself to bring jelly donuts to the Monday team member's troll account management seminar.  DO NOT BE LATE!!!!

None needed, just had too much coffee at too late an hour.

I suppose that one gets used to the sounds associated with the AR. First time I pulled the trigger and heard the "sproing" from the buffer/spring, I thought "what-the-heck?". Now I don't notice it. The same with the ringing from the Vortex.

It does remind me of a ringtone circulating. The young hear it; older ears are deaf to it.

It is a good thing that wisdom involves years lived. Something lost, but something gained.

(Need coffee!)

If the noise bothers you, I'd recommend the Phoenix Flash hider as it's helitical cuts act very much like the Vortex and is a bit lighter.

It's flash suppression is better than the Phantom but not quite as good as the Vortex in my opinion.
