Good info,

Now what I'd really like to know is how to install a new FSB on to a new undrilled barrel.

How do you insure that the FSB is perfectly vertical and how do you keep it in place during drilling?

Any jigs available that would make this a relatively painless process?

I've done quite a few new sight bases on new undrilled barrels.  To get it straight up and down I center my rear sight.  I tap the hole under the sling swivel on the fsb for a set screw.  I go to the range and zero the windage on the rifle by tilting the fsb left or right.  After zeroing I drill the pilot holes through the fsb/barrel.  A mill or a drill press will work.  Just make sure the barrel is secure in a vice.  After drilling ream the holes by hand with a taper pin reamer.  Once the taper pins are installed remove the set screw.  It's easy.  As with any pinned barrel the fsb/barrel are now a matched pair.
