Is there much of a difference in cooling?  Other advantages / disadvantages?

I'm considering ordering a complete kit from Del-Ton, and wanted a free-float handguard.  They offer the DPMS free-float tube in both normal (+28$) and vented (+45$).  Is the vented version worth the extra $17?  Will I notice much improvement in cooling rate, or anything else for that matter?

TIA,

Brian

I have both on two different rifles and I don't notice any difference at all, but I feel you should pop the $17 for the vented because you really do want it.

Good Luck

If it's metal, vent it. If you don't, when you decided to dump a mag or two for fun, your forestock will get so hot you'll need an oven mit to hold it. I am working on a line of "tactical" oven mits (without flowers). So, if you go with unvented, give me a shout.

I've dumped enough mags thru an unvented handguard to have melted the gas tube and it was still manageable barehanded.  I personally don't like the vented look.

I have been wrong a time or two. Is yours light under the handguard or heavy?? If you did that with my heavy, you would leave skin on the handguard. Thus, i switched to DD. I will say that i am speaking of the solid aluminum type, which is what i assume deltron uses........but, you know what they say about assuming.
