What issues if any would I have replacing the FSB on a Colt 20" A-2 HBAR? Do I just need to order a order a FSB that I could use on a BM, RRA etc.? Is there a difference between Colt parts and the others? I also plan to install a F. Float tube at the same time. Any issues with Colt there. The only thing I know about this upper is that it fits a RRA lower with no problems. I usually don't mess with Colt but I snagged the complete upper for $300.00 at a pawn shop and it looks almost new. It is a ban upper (no bay. lug)  but has a standard bird cage on it with the crush washer. I got the tools and the great instructions. I just need to know if I can proceed without Colt part dimention issues.  Thanks

The pin holes will more than likely not line up. Why do you need to replace it ?
The barrel was more than likely from the Match Target lineup. They have no lug but still are threaded for flash hiders.

Replacing a front base with another pinned through base is a job for a professional shop that specializes in ARs. Replacemwnt bases come undrilled w/the pin holes, and the new holes will have to be drilled to line up w/the existing holes in the barrel. There are some scrw retained bases out there that you can probably use, but my personal opinion is that 1) they look terrible and 2) I don't trust them to stay in place.

I'd just live without the bayo stud.  I wouldn't want a none factory installed FSB on any of my guns, Bubba.

I agree with reuseing the org. Colt front sight. If you must change it send it to CMMG they are set up to install a new front sight. But they will probley will have to drill new taper pin holes. Or charge you more to drill the front sight to the same dementions as your curent taper pin cutouts in barrel. Total with shipping will run almost $100 plus?

Update: The upper is a Colt 1/7 A-2 HBAR chromed 20" with the factory screwed on bird
cage. Your points about the FSB are well taken and I must agree. I'll keep it on there. I know almost nothing about a Colt AR except markings. Could anyone tell me about the carrier. It looks like a C instead of a full circle on the end. This was supposed to be a LEO upper. I know it has a very low rd. count 'cause the carrier and bolt show almost no wear at all. All parts are Colt marked.
