Do I need a M16 firing pin to go with an Enhanced M16 Carrier in my AR-15?  I seem to remember something about the flange being a different diameter.

Thanks,

No.  The carrier in my semi-auto CAR is an M16 carrier, and I have a normal bolt and firing pin.

There is a difference between the two firing pins, the (flange) is larger on the m-16 pin.

Here's what Dano523 (troubleshooting forum mod) said in a post in 2003:

The difference is the bolt stop diameter. The length of the stop to pin end is the same length on both pins. The semi pin just has a smaller bolt stop to catch the hammer if the disconnector does not retain the hammer during the forward cocking stroke. This prevents the hammer from following the carrier back forward, and only works with if the carrier is not hooded. If you are using the semi firing pin in a hooded carrier (m-16) then don't worry about the different sizes, both sizes will work in the rifle.

I added the bolding.  Bushmaster has this to say (from the same thread):

The only difference between the firing pins is the diameter of the flange for the retaining pin. The M16 firing pin is .370" diameter and the AR15 flange is .340" diameter. While an AR15 firing pin will work fine in an M16, the M16 firing pin will have an interference with the AR15 hammer which could cause the bolt carrier to hang up on the firing pin when cycled.

You're fine with a semi pin in an M16 carrier.  Works great in mine.
