Make sure rifle is unloaded. Unscrew the four mounting screws on the underside of the gas block. Knock out the gas tube roll pin with a punch; some people use a drill bit instead. Remove gas tube from gas block; this may be hard depending on how "baked in" the gas tube is. Reinstall gas tube on the spectre gas block, be sure you don't install it upside down. Reinstall gas tube roll pin. Slide the gas tube into the receiver and place gas block over the gas port in the top of the barrel. Align the holes (gas block and gas port) as best you can, you have a little fudge factor, so it doesn't have to be perfect. Screw on the bottom of the gas block and tighten. Reassemble rifle and see if your bolt carrier moves freely and that the gas key doesn't bind on the gas tube; if it does you may have to back the gas tube/block out a little, or check the left/right orientation of the gas tube (the gas block might be off center a bit. Shoot for function and make adjustments to the gas block as needed. Load one round in the mag and shoot; look for a normal recoil and if the bolt locks back. If it does, load five rounds and shoot. If the bolt locks after that, you should be good to go. Shoot some more, once you are satisfied, go back and make sure all of your screws are tight. You can remove one at a time and put some blue locktite if you desire. |
