First time builder here.

I'm looking at the Lower Parts Kits on the EE and am confused which is the best. Here is what I've found:

Bushmaster = $ 70
DPMS = $ 65
Rock River = $ 59
RBPRECISION = $ 51
CMT / Stag = $ 64

Non EE:

CMMG = $ 124.95 (wow!)
LMT (hear that they are very good quality but can't find their lower parts kit - do they make? Link?)

Any others recommended either on our EE or elsewhere?

Thoughts and comments? Advantages / Disadvantages of one over the others? The price difference between the lowest and highest is not a issue for me.

Later I will be asking you guys about the best receiver and 6 Pos. Stock. Chime in now if you want but I want to order the lower parts kit now.

Thanks.

I personally would stick with CMT.  I have had good luck with bushmaster and bad luck.  It really can vary.  LMT to my knowledge does not sell lower parts kits.  They contract out their lower parts I believe.  I am not sure but they may use CMT.  The last LMT lower I bought had a C stamped on the hammer.

Out of your list I have used with equal results, RRA, Stag/CMT, and DPMS. The price you list for the DPMS is HIGH...these can be found for 50-55 bux. The RBprecision is IIRC a DPMS.

As for the "best" M4 stock...get a "mil spec" such as the Stag/CMT so if and when you'd like to upgrade to a Vltor or such, you won't have to get the tube.

I used the RB Precision on my last build with a Stag lower and it went together fine.

I have a stag lpk that came with my stag kit and everything seemed just fine when i installed it into a stag lower.

Also just bought the $51 lpk from RBPrecision and I am very happy with it also.  Installed it in a Stag lower.

From what I understand the RBPrecision kit has a DPMS trigger and hammer and the rest of the parts were RRA. Give them a call if you have any Questions real nice people to deal with.

Hope this helps

CMT is pretty good but my trigger pull feels like 9lbs+ on one. I would not go with bushmaster, just because they include a plastic trigger guard which I think is just cheap

JSE Surplus has DPMS kits for $49, here's their link. Little less than half way down. I bought one from them and it worked just fine.

I got one from them, and it appears to have a non-DPMS trigger and hammer in it.  The hammer has the notch cut in it, and DPMS doesn't have the notch.  Mine went in smoothly too, and yes, they are nice people.

My other LPK is a DPMS, and it works great too.  No complaints on either.

JSE Surplus is good people too.  They got my order to me fast, and the shipping cost was really low.

I find the DPMS mag release to be undersized and the serrations aren't as crisp as other vendors.

I say go RRA.

The CMMG kit you looked at includes an A2 stock. The normal parts kit is $59.

RRA/Stag or Armalite--(best damn stock trigger out of the box, great fit and finish)

I went with J&T Dist. and an aftermarket trigger.

Thanks all. Great Advice!

For the build I went with CMT / Stag Lower Parts Kit Complete from Denny at GTS for $ 64 along with a CMT MIL SPEC M4 Buttstock Kit with H Buffer for $ 88.95

I also ordered from RBPrecision their "1st time builder" AR15 Lower Parts Kit with extra pivot/takedown detent for $ 51 which I will keep on hand for future spare parts.

From RBPrecision I also ordered a Black ERGO Sure Grip AR Kit for $23.00, this will go on the build.

BTW, excellent service from RBPrecision

Next step will be a Lower Stripped Receiver. I will start a separate thread asking for advise. This build will not be the cheapest but I want get the best bang for the buck.

For a lower, you can just read one of the umpteen billion "best lower" threads in this forum.  People ask that one about 3 times per week, it seems.

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=298185

Bottom line, by the way: They are all about the same (as long as you get forged and not cast), but they have different logos on them.  The only revolutionary ones are the Sun Devil billet (carved from a block, not finished from a forged piece) receivers.  They cost more, work the same, but look a lot smoother/cooler.

Want the cheapest one going right now that's still good?  JKiser is your man.  Stag lower = $99 shipped.

EDIT:
Okay, prices have changed in a week or so, and RB Precision's Superior Arms lower is now 4 bucks less:
www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=243582

I think the large, Courier-style, fixed-width font used on the Superior lowers looks terrible, though, but that's just me.  Even the selector markings look weird.  Looks like my wife's kindergarten class's writings.    It would look fine if it were 10-pt like on my DPMS lowers instead of 12 (14?) point font that barely fits on the side of the receiver.

I'm thinking it's a hit or miss deal as my CMT kit was pretty rough and likely the problem of many FTF's. I have changed the hammer,trigger and disc for RRA and they are machined much smoother. funny thing is both hammers have the identical "c" in a circle. Anyway I haven't taken it out to the range for a run through yet but hopes are high...

My money is for the RRA LPK's - they use real roll pins - they go in easier.

I have had problems with the others - their one ring roll pins - and the take down pins being the wrong size - so big that I could not use them.

of course - YMMV

I've used RRA and RB Precision.  RRA was the smoothest build the real roll pins are a nice addition.  RB Precision was nice as well.  It did have an out of spec safety detent and rear takedown pin but RB was awesome about it and sent me new ones free and had them in my hands in two days.  The hammer and trigger were notched and looked identical to the RRA.  The other stuff was different.  I'm not familiar with DPMS so I couldn't say whether they are the source for RB's small parts or not.

I ordered several Stag LPKs from Carolina Tactical (in the EE), and they were awesome to deal with. $63 shipped, and they were here in 2 days.

I like the Stag LPKs, and I have used Armalite in the past.
