I ordered a new ejection port assembly because the originals detent button was out of spec. After taking the old one out. I noticed the new one was about a 1/4 inch longer? Everything else about it looks identical. Its just longer.

All ejection ports are the same on all models of AR15's are they not?

I know.....stupid question. But damn, as much as this ejection port assembly is out of spec. It is almost as if it is for another model or something. It is a full 1/4 inch longer than normal. It is a DPMS part. I have heard some of their stuff is suspect.

Maybe your upper is out of spec.

The upper is on a brand new Bushmaster A3 16" Superlight. I am pretty sure it is not of spec. On the ejection port cover there is the little button or detent? that gets pushed down when you close the port door. That little button is sticking up too much and won't let the door close. It is very noticeable compared to my other AR15's port cover doors and the new one that was ordered. I compared the new out of spec ejection port door to all 3 of my AR15's and it is too long on those also.

I am curious. Maybe someone with an AR10 could reply. How much bigger is the ejection port door on an AR10 compared to a AR15. Its possible this part was just mislabeled at the factory.

I was about to suggest it might be a AR10 EP cover.

My factory DPMS upper is the same.  It's hard to close the port door/dust cover unless you slap it closed with force or press down the detent with your fingertip when closing.  It has already made a little silver nick in the receiver where it hits.  I just assumed it would get weaker over time like my used Oly upper is.  I can close it easily just by pushing it lightly.

I thought it was just new... is this an issue?  I certainly am not going to buy a new door because of it, however.  I'll just keep slapping this one closed before I spend more dough on it.
