Ok, first time I started a post, so I'll keep it as basic as possible (so I don't screw-up)

Working on a build, using a RRA 18" Varmint upper.  I want to change out the FF and put on the new YHM Quad on that I got for it.  I can't get this %$#@er to move!! his ) But I can't get this thing to even act like it wants to come loose.  It's a one piece so I've tried the strap wrench (it broke), a chunk of old boot leather and channel locks (no luck).  Does anyone know if RRA uses lock-tite or similar product on the FF Tubes?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

I just did some work on my RRA 24"varmiter. To loosen the free float tube:

1) use a vise and receiver block to hold the upper securely.

2) loosen the locking or "jamb nut" by screwing it towards the receiver so it's not pressed against the free float tube.

3) You need to loosen the Blue Loc-tite that RRA uses on the float tube/barrel nut contact. Recruit an assistant (my wife helped me) and use 2 heat blowdryers (I had one consumer style and one "beauty shop" grade hairdryer) to heat the tube where the threads lap the barrel nut (first 3") heat all around the tube. Its got to get real hot so give it a few minutes.

4) Have your assistant hold both dryers and continue to heat while you unscrew the float tube. I had a strap wrench to start with but ended up just using my hands.

best of luck on your project,

Thanks Mike

I actually got it off.  This didn't have a jam nut, it was a one piece (the FF tube is one solid piece including the barrel nut)

I just needed to get a little more aggresive (and of course I garffed it up a little).

The RRA FF is now replaced with the new YHM quad.
