I did a search and only found one item, didn't say much.

I just bought one of these and will probably install internals tonight.

They are very light, has anyone tried these carbon fiber receivers and if so how do they hold up?

I was told by the seller they were tougher than the aluminum, is that true or sales pitch?

I have built one other AR, the only one I have but it was on a milled aluminum receiver and I'm very happy with it.

you are about to start a flame war, better put on your flame suit

and no they suck

Be very gentle with the buffer tube threads. Carbon fiber is plenty strong, but a simple cross threading can ruin it.

I'm not worried about the flames but what I'm really looking for is people that have them and have tried them not someone's hearsay and opinion.

The crossthread thing is good information, Thanks

You're in the wrong place if you want honest objective anecdotes from actual owners.

When your 65.00 Vulcan breaks, Save the parts kit and come to me or Robbie (roseco) and we'll hook you up with a decent lower at a fair price.

The 35 - 40 bucks you saved is not worth it.

If that's the case then I have to think about this board, I am new to this one with just a few posts, I have been on several other boards for years where I have gotten good information about AKs.

This looked like a very active board about ARs but if you are saying no one gives good information and only cares about flamming people and selling their brand it sounds like a bad place to get reliable information.

I don't have a "brand".

I can sell you overpriced Bushmasters or $100 Stag or Doublestar. They all outperform the Vulcan.

I was standing there next to the Vulcan guy's table last weekend when two different people were asking for their money back as the receivers had cracked. The guy said no.

I don't believe in the adage "you get what you pay for" in all cases. For instance, I believe Colts are overpriced.

Relax, your in good hands, this is THE BEST site to be on as an AR owner.

Now to your Vulcan Lower Receiver. First off I have no personal experience with Vulcan, but I have heard their quality is lacking, and yes that’s second hand knowledge obtained here on the boards.

But if I was shopping for a new lower receiver I would not pick a Vulcan carbon fiber receiver simply because good quality aluminum receivers can be had for under or right around $100. Have you checked into other brands of aluminum receivers? Or is there some specific reason your looking at carbon fiber instead of a traditional lower?

Quib,

said "Or is there some specific reason your looking at carbon fiber instead of a traditional lower?"

No I have already bought one, I was looking for other people who have one and their experience with it.  I already knew a lot of people didn't like it but so far all of them I have talked to FTF don't own one and have never tried it.

The crossthread comment was a very good one and I will certainly be careful.

My first AR as I stated above is built on a milled aluminum receiver and it works great.

I bought this from my local gun shop, it's the first receiver they have  carried of any kind, I am more into the AK and have been trying to get them to carry AK receivers.

My current AR is an A2 with a 20" barrel, I am thinking about putting that stock and upper on the vulcan and then using the aluminum receiver to build an M4 with a Collapsible stock.

I haven't bought the M4 or stock yet.

Sigh...  Life is too short for all the politics.

Anyway.

I have one of the Vulcan carbon lowers.  I also have the matching carbon upper.

Yes every time I shoot it it blows apart into little pieces that I have to Super Glue back together, only to fire another round and start over.

In all seriousness, I've run aroound 1200 rounds through that rifle and it's been absolutely perfect.  Does that mean in 10k rounds it will have cracked?  I dunno maybe.  That was a risk I was willing to take.  So far it's been great, runs flawlessly, and is super light.

If and when it breaks I understand Vulcan will not stand behind it cause they are a POS company.  That however does not translate to I have anything bad to say about their carbon fiber receivers currently.  I'm quite happy with mine.

Now my $300 Jolly Roger lower from Tom Sawyer on the other hand was a huge POS and I slapped an upper on that and sold the whole thing to Cabela's to be rid of it.  Maybe someday soon I'll post the pics and review of that little gem.

I guess it's like my WASR 10.

I'm told they're crap.

Unreliable.

The worst AK.

Mine is accurate and reliable and has at least 1500 rds of bumped ammo through it plus another 5000 of wolf and others.....no problems.

Gave it to my son and he's put another 1000 through it....works like a charm, but he keeps cleaning it and I told him he's just going to piss it off by cleaning it.

So, buy those Vulcans, Jennings (Now Jiminez) pistols, and WASR10's.   It's all relative.

I ordered a couple of lowers from Tom Sawyer, one was an RRA the other a Stag.

If these lowers are bad, I doubt if it's the little bit of laser engraving..

My signature lower is a POS?!?!  Please share (maybe in a new thread as to not hijack this one further).  I was definitely looking into one of these due to my handle.

As far as the Vulcan, I have no experience shooting them.  The ones I have seen at the gunshows didnt excite me much when I can get a "real" lower for not much more.
Good luck with it, I hope it works well for you.

I've personally seen (not owned) a few that had shattered at the buffer tube area. The guy said he dropped his rifle on his living room carpet, and it landed on the stock, and "crack".Not worth it IMHO.

I have 5 Vulcan carbon fiber lowers and 4 uppers. All the uppers are  being used for dedicated 22LR combinations (I have made all my barrels from Ruger 10/22 take-offs). I have found the fit to be very tight in all pins and the upper to lower fit.  Some hand fitting has been necessary.  I have built 2 extremely light pistols(22LR) and 2 very light rifles(22LR) that are a lot of fun to shoot. If you don't plan to use you firearm for a pry-bar or a club, they do build a very light combination.  I do, howerver, have some reservations about using the uppers for .223 and suspect that they are not as impact resistant when dropped on the wrong spot.
I am using 1 lower with a 16" A1 pencil barrel for a very light weight .223 behind the seat truck gun.
Improper assembly, i.e. cross threading and hammering can destroy any receiver.
