Ok, so I'm not much into tinkering, so I plan on getting a GG&G upper annd matting it to a complete lower.  BUT, from who?  I was thinking Rock River Arms, but now I just saw a LMT here on the forum.  Who makes a great lower that would work?  And what manufacturer of the bolt and bolt carrier should I go with?

Choose, but choose wisely

Just Kidding.

It doesn't matter in most cases, all reputable brands make fine lowers with the exception of casted lowers. Just besure its a forged lower.

There is alot of talk on here about the different internals of a lower. For example: Some will argue that Bushmaster has heavier/thicker internals than say RRA.

I will say RRA lowers have a tighter fit. Which eliminates rattle noises, but makes it slightly more difficult when assembling. But in time a RRA lower will losen, so it doesn't matter.

It is my personal belief is that if you stay with in the realm reputable manufacturers you can't go wrong. And it isn't at all difficult to buy a stripped lower and assemble it with the highest praised parts, even if your not into tinkering. Its a breeze just use info found here at arfcom. I have a RRA lower with Bushy guts, works fine no hiccups.

It eventully boils down to what logo you want on the side of your lower. I would reccomend RRA lowers just cause I have more expierence with those.

Bolts on the other hand need to have the headspace checked, most will agree that when using all new parts that isn't absolutely necessary. But it sure doesn't hurt. Most complete uppers i have seen come with bolt and bolt carrier. If you buy those parts seperatly it doesn't hurt to have headspace checked by a gunsmith. Once agian most of these parts are made to (or very close to) milspec. So its just a matter of preference.

As far as headspace is concerned, GG&G is advertising their dominator w/o the bolt, and state that it is already headspaced, just ad your bolt.  How can this be?

GG&G is saying that the barrel extension and chambering are mil-spec, and will correctly headspace with any mil-spec bolt. Although many prefer to be ultra-safe and check headspace on all bolt/barrel combinations, it should not really be necessary, except in the case of very worn bolts or barrels. I have several barrels and several bolts, and I don't try to keep them matched up.

I'll agree with what was posted above, it really boils down to who's logo you like. I have built a few now using 3 major brand names and all have worked fine. I still can't decide who's logo I like the best though. I think I'd prefer none to be honest.

Stag from:

TitleII $95stripped
or
Eaglefirarms.net $95stripped $159 less buttstock, $225 w/6pos. stock

If you want to be different and save a bit of $$ then a Cavalry MKII lower with DPMS lower parts kit from DSG Arms for $145 would be the way to go. Add a CAR buffer and spring and you're in business for less than $175 for a complete lower.  I like my Cav MKII just as much as my regular lowers.

I'm thinking about picking up  a SunDevil Lower. They look and sound very nice. Do a search and you should find their add on the equip. exchange.
