I have gotten a RRA M4 upper.. the problem is this was a ban era upper and so it has a FAKE A2 Comp on it.. *the one that aucually doesnt have any cuts in it.. dam near just a barrel extenson* i want to relace it with a real A2 Flash Hider.. I have inspected it pretty through and dont see any weld marks or pins. it does have a crush washer on it. the next thing i'm thinking is its silver soderd on *i havent aucually tryed to remove it yet* how do i remove this thing without hurting the barrel? if it is silver soderd i was thinking i just can take a propane torch to it and heat it while having the wrench on it.. let me know if you have removed one of these or what you would go about doing to remove it... i really dont want to take this to a smith. Clamp your barrel securely. Put vise grips or other wrench on the fake flash suppressor and turn it off. It is not threaded, but knurled. Just keep turning and exerting pressure toward the muzzle and it comes off soon. The down side to taking it off is the you will have an area in front of the new threaded flash suppressor that will be a smaller diameter .5 that the rest of the barrel .750 and it will be knurled. Either live with it or cut your barrel length so the new FS will bottom out against the existing shoulder. Of course now you have a short barrel, less than 16". You will have to permanently attach your FS. |

its really not hard to remove the fake comp on the end of the barrel. i place the upper in a vise (have to have a vise receiver block) and head the end of it up. It should be the same size wrench that you use to unscrew an A2 buttstock extension. after heating it I place the wrench on the flats and tap it with a hammer. basically you hammer strokes are parrallel to the barrel. i alternate sides too give me a call tomorrow at the shop if you need some more help brian 803-260-9868 |
