I have a friend that is putting together an MForgery and he asked me to help him with attaching a Phantom flash suppressor. He has a BM 14.5 upper that he wants to use with the Phantom to make it 16" legal. We are planning on using the silver solder method and I need to know what is the best way to do this. Also, will heating the barrel to the temp that is required for the solder to work damage the barrel, crown or rifling in any way? Thanks in advance...

no problem with the heat, i just did it tonight. just make sure you evenly heat all of the way around, not just one side at a time. have fun removing the pined flash hider, it took me about 20 mins total.

just smear the solder paste on, then heat it up real hot

Great, just what I was hoping to hear. This may be a stupid question, but are the threads on an AR barrel the normal right hand threads or are they left handed like on AK rifles? Just thought I'd make sure before I start cranking on it...

Just keep in mind..........that excessive heat can damage your barrel.....and will cause it to loose its "temper".

Sometimes jobs that look easy....have hidden bad consequences that don't make themselves visible right away.

Ask a company [on this forum ] that does this type of service, if the procedure is fool-proof --- I think the answer will make you nervous.

i like drilling a hole pining it into the barrel slightly and then a little weld over the top of it. the heat is very minimal and quick. i use a tig welder for it. i would never silver solder one on for the high heat involved over a long time.

just a touch of cold blue is all i use. teh soldering can discolor a large area due to the high heat.
