My DPMS armorers tool hasn't arrived yet, and won't till Friday.  But I want to go ahead and try to get my free floating rail project moving.

What size wrench will I need to take off my A2 flash hider?

Why not try a 10 inch adjustable wrench? I've used mine plently of times. If you're worried about the finish, wrap it in electrical tape first.

I want to say a 3/4" will work but not exactly sure.  A cresent will work as well

A 3/4 did the trick.

I found I could get a tighter fit with the crescent wrench and tape than my GI multi tool.  I had tried all my metric and standard wrenches looking for the tightest fit but didn't like the loose tolerances.  Of the half a dozen times I've removed and replaced flash suppressors, I haven't hurt one yet.  Just make sure the wrench jaws are parallel and not worn out allowing it to slip.

I find that the MAC  19mm fits best.
