When I install the new gas tube, do I need to check the alignment with the carrier key or is it one of those things where if it goes in the hole it is correct?

If I need to check the alignment, how is this done and how do you make the proper adjustment if it doesn't align correctly?

Thanks in advance,

It's a good idea to check that the key is moving smoothly over the end of the tube.

I once installed a barrel nut so that it was slightly misaligned with the gas tube hole in the upper.  The gas tube fit through, but when I installed the bolt, it wouldn't close completely without force.
It turns out that one of the barrel teeth was slightly dented towards the tube.  It was pushing the tube to the side enough to cause friction against the key.  I disassembled everything and retightened the barrel nut so that teeth weren't applying any pressure on the tube.

ETA:  Sorry, I just realized you're just installing a new gas tube.  You should still check the fit with the carrier key, but there shouldn't be any need for adjustments.

Make sure its straight down the center, if its off to one side, adjust it as needed.  If its off by much, adjust it off the barrel nut, if its off a little, bend the tube slightly.

Thanks guys -

I will make sure the carrier moves freely and is able to close without dragging before I fire off any rounds.
