I have been thinking of purchasing a rifle for the last year, but finances prevented my doing so. The idea was shelved until last month, when I realized that I could finally afford to purchase a rifle. So, I have decided to purchase an AR-15.

I have given the forums a good read through and have a good idea of what I would like. I would prefer to assemble the lower, but may end up purchasing a complete lower instead.

I plan to start shooting at 100-200 yards. Once I am confident, I'll start shooting at longer ranges and work my way up to 500 yards. I have access to a shooting range (15 miles away) and land (120 acres, 30 miles) for target practice.

I will pick one of the following:

---

Build 1:

RRA Lower
RRA LPK
RRA A2 Buttstock

$280 from RRA web site ($270 Preassembled). Cheaper elsewhere.
$495 RRA Car A4 Upper Half (SS)

$775 before shipping or ffl.

---

Build 2:

Armalite Lower
Armalite LPK
Armalite A2 Buttstock

$263 from Armalite web site ($265 Preassembled).
$500 Armalite M15A4 SPR

$763 before shipping or ffl

---

Build 3:

Armalite Lower
Armalite LPK
Armalite A2 Buttstock

$263 from Armalite web site ($265 Preassembled).
$600 Armalite U15A4TB

$863 before shipping or ffl

---

Future:
Add BUIS.
Add Optics.
Add FF Grip.
Add Bipod.
Et Al.

Looks good.  Have fun building it and let us know how it turns out.

It definately feels good to assemble your own rifle.  You choices look good,  especialy the Armalite U15A4TB.  For the longer ranges you are talking about shooting,  this might be more effective.  If you have any problems assembling the lower,  don't be afraid to post questions.  Some parts can be a litle tricky for the first time, but it is very very doable.  Good luck.

EDIT to say  And this won't be your last build!  I have been averaging about 1 rifle a year since I bought my first 6 years ago!
