I have built a number of AR's.  I got a good deal on a DPMS stripped lower (from DPMS at the last gunshow), so I started putting a "budget AR" together, with some of the parts I scraped up.  So far it is a complete lower, with A2 buttstock, and grip, and I have a rifle length handguard for it (all OD green).  I can't decide what to do for a barrel length?

I do know that I'm just looking for a kick around range gun, and I'm set on an A2 style upper, w/ non-removable carrying handle.  What I can't decide on, is should I go nostalgic, with a full A2 20" barrel setup?  Or go with a Dissipator style barrel setup?  This is going to be a range gun, but has potential for being a loaner gun for varmit hunting (should my Dad ever actually want to go, which is unlikely).

I guess I'm leaning towards the 20" barrel, but I've always liked the looks of the rifle length handguards on the 16" barrel (dissipator), and I think my OD Green furniture would look sweet on a Dissipator.

Any advise/opinions welcome!  Thanks.

ETA:
For what it's worth, I already have:
- Bushmaster M4gery
- DPMS 16" with A2 stock, and A2 style upper
- RRA freefloated varmit

And I have owned but sold (due to financial or space reasons, not due to dislike):
- Olympic Arms (w/ SGW stop sign) all A2 setup (my first AR)
- RRA complete A2 (my first build, built during the ban)

Sounds like you have your share of 16 inchers. Go 20".

Besides, I personally havn't warmed up to the dissipator style yet. I could change over time, but I just don't dig it right now.

Whatever you decide have fun with it!!!
