I want to put a vertical grip on my newly built 16 inch AR but I dont want to remove the gas block to put a nice rail on it. Ive seen Rails that advertise no gunsmithing. What do you guys think about  these? what do you think about mounting the vertical grip on one? any oppinions would be highly appreciated.

i have owned the surefire m73 (car version) it worked good and was pretty stiff and a verticle grip worked fine on it. i have a yhm yankee hill machine free float tube mow and it really wasn't hard to remove the front post and most after market gas blockes are even easier. just need a punch set and a mallet and for  after market some allen wrenches.
yhm makes a two peice one that is supposed to be very good as well

your rifle has a built in verticle grip; it's called your magwell. unless you're going to be dumping several magazines in quick succession, a vert. grip is unneccessary weight. your magwell is closer to your body, which makes it easier to hold anyway. but to each his own. it is your rifle. i would save the money for better things, like ammo. if you do a search, i'm certain you will find the answer. good luck.

How did that help at all?

To answer the question... there are many two piece designs... KAC M4 RAS, YHM, Troy MRF-C and Surefire to name a few.  All I have seen are good quality, some even free-float the barrel.  All I have seen will provide ample support for a forward grip, if that is desired.

the help was me telling him to do a search, as this has been covered. many, many times. if you put several sentances together, they form a paragraph. you should read it all, not just the first few lines.

I like my TDI short grip.  Very comfortable, light, and solid.

FWIW, I just dropped a YHM 2pc railed forend onto my M4gery and it is super solid.  It was an impulse purchase that I thought about for a long time....and eventually went with so the other guys on the block wouldn't pick on me anymore.

VFG's are rather nice because you can locate them wherever it's most comfortable for you.  I tried holding the magwell, but that didn't stabilize the rifle like I would have prefered.  The biggest problem is choosing a VFG from the many designs out there.

I'm very intrigued by the Yankee Hill folding foregrip, but I don't hear anyone talking about them.  They are cheaper than some other brands made of poured plastic.  Paralysis by analysis......

I bought a troy mrf-c forearm last year and put it on a build. Very easy to install and extremely solid. I don't have a single complaint about it.

I have a YHM on my M4gery with a GG&G VG. I like it a lot.

ETA: Its very solid too. I have run it with an EOTech forward on the rail with no problems.

If the only thing you're going to mount is a VFG, I'd just get a bolt on rail and grip.  They run from $15 up.
