After reading a bunch of postings on ar15.com ... here's my initial thoughts on my first rifle to build.

~5.56mm cal.
~Lauer lower receiver and parts kit
~16" barrel, heavy profile in 1:7 or 1:8 twist, with a chromed bore and chamber (does anyone make something like this?  I've a preference towards a stiffer barrel for accuracy)
~6 position collapsible stock
~Flat top for optics, but iron sights for now
~Standard handguard (maybe a rail system in the future?)

I'd appreciate any feedback on this ... thanks in advance ...

Kerry

IMHO, any rifle / carbine that can have a free float handguard, should have a free float handguard.

The inexpensive ones do get pretty hot on ARs, but I believe that the increase in accuracy makes up for it.

There's just something wrong about placing force on the end of your barrel if you don't have to.

Sounds like a very nice rifle, but we need to see photos to make sure
