Does anyone know where I can get a chromed bolt carrier? So far the only one I can find is made by Les Baer, and it’s kind of expensive. Am I just not looking hard enough? hinking.gif |
that being said i have a few std. bolts with around 7-8k through them without a single failure. |
What happend to them, did they break, or did the chrome start chipping off? Would stainless be a better way to go? I found out that JP makes one, but it costs big $$$. |
| Over the last couple of years I've seen a few posts about chromed bolts (not the carriers) breaking or cracking because of being more brittle than the standard ones. In spite of that I bought one for my current unfinished project (need more $$$), but I will probably buy a standard bolt when it's done. |
| I think a chromed BC is overkill. Arent all uppers just hard anodized on the inside where the BC works back and forth? To me it would be like putting hardened steel pistons in an aluminum block with aluminum bores. Not quite that extreme as the anodizing is hard but I dont think its as hard as chrome. I think you'll just wear out the inside of your upper quicker. |
DPMS..........check aution arms.com and gunbroker.com I have 5000 rounds thru mine and no failures. Easy to clean too! |

How many guys have actually seen any type of failures with the chromed bolts and/or carriers? Or maybe the guys that are building and selling the gear could give us some insight on this subject. Are they more brittle? Do they break? I'm interested in getting one, but if it isn't going to be 100% reliable then I don't want to get in a jam with it. |

What does that have to do with my statement you copied?
