I'm sure that the high-dollar railed handguards (Troy, Larue, etc.) are "better" than the cheaper substitutes, but how much better!! More specifically, what do y'all think of the YHM's (both 2-piece and free float) and the First Samco M44's? Thanks in advance for the input!

I got the YHM 2 piece, 4 rail (non free float), and I absolutely love them!

I don't have any rail covers on them.  They are very well ventilated, and it really helps in cooling the barrel down.  Mine are on a Bushy, and they fit perfectly.  You can find them on here new for about $100.  Well worth the deal.

the samco sucks.

yhm two piece is not free float. the free floated ones are pretty decent for the money.

i have used a few of the yhm free floats and they are pretty nice, good for the money.

free floated handguards usaully require more work to install though, except troy/samson, arms. and some others where only the d-ring needs to be removed only,

the better ones require removal of bbl, fsb, muzzle device and whatever else thats in the way.

i like the higher end free floats better, have decided that its better to just save up for the better stuff and buy only once.
