As an individual that has an interest in fine guns and knives I was thinking about blending some of the technology.

Knife makers use phosphorous-bronze washers on custom folding knives.  They do a great job keeping the pivot area smooth and aligned.

My thought is to mill and polish the sides of the hammer and trigger that contact the insides of the lower receiver.   Then add the phosphorous-bronze washers to shim them up.  I think it should keep the whole trigger assemble true and straight as well as reduce any friction from contact with the side of the lower and reduce lateral play.

Has anyone done this?  If so did it work?  Does anyone else see any value or am I fixing a problem that doesn’t exist?

I have done it on 77/22's and 10/22's, it always helped those tremendously. I also used to do it to my overdraws on my bows, I made washers from teflon shim stock to use on the rest pivot.

I'm not sure I would ever see a difference, but I'll bet it would sell.

Yes, I use a SS washer/shim in between the trigger/receiver side to take out the slop (washer is had lapped for the size needed per rifle). Depending if the rifle will be fired right handed or left will determines the side placement of the washer. This allows for a more consentient trigger job when performed on the stock FCG’s.

As for the hammer, it's kind of a waste since the hammer will pick a side of the receiver to ride during reset.

I think I'll give it a try.

I'll photo as I go.

I'll report back if it seem to make a difference.

I once had a similar idea.

Take a newer Colt with the larger sized fire control pins, add bronze bushings and use standard fire control compontents.

It sounds like it would work.
