I'm currently trying to remove the fsb.  I was assuming that it was held on by the 2 pins that are under the front sight but I have put quick a beating on them with a punch and a hammer and they are not budging...

Any ideas?

Get a bigger hammer.

If they are taper pins (a close inspection will reveal that), make sure you're whomping on 'em from the "little" side.  I think the tool should be 1/16", so if you are using one larger than that, you may be exerting all the force on the FSB surrounding metal.

You can also use a torch howmapartsinc.com/anything.asp

I saw that.  I'm going to try some of the stuff there with wood.  If I feel its not going to work, out comes the dremel and the cutting wheels.

I DID IT!

The bigger hammer worked!

This was of course after 2 sets of cross-cuts to the gasblock and sight rings with the dremel tool.  Not a single scratch.  I just etched down *carefully* to get as close to the barrel as possible to weaken the metal... to bashes on the FSB on a block of wood and it torqued off no problems.

Now... time to install the new suckers, no pins needed thank god.

the cure for most problems involves the use of a bigger hammer.

The first 2 FSBs I did were Model 1 uppers...they used straight pins, so a little Kroil and a couple of taps from a 1lb hammer did the trick.  On my 2 Olympic Match barrels, I thought I would need dynamite to loosen them lol.  I couldn't believe how tight they were.
