Sorry if this has been covered before. I don't frequent this section of the board very often. I have a Bushmaster V-Match that has a float tube on it. I want to remove it, but don't know how. Same goes for my little 7" Model 1 pistol upper: float tube and I want to remove it. I actually tried to get the Bushmaster apart. I found that the float tube is in two pieces. The first piece easily unscrews from the other. The other of course, is screwed into the upper receiver, I guess. Only, if that is the case, why can't I unscrew it ? |

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I took the gas tube off. I took the gas block off. I took off the front of the tube. BUT, there remians a piece of the tube that is a few inches long. You can't get a barrel wrench in there. Either there is a special barrel wrench for this situation, or there is a way to get the remainder of the tube off. I tried to just unscrew the rest of the tube using a strap wrench and then covered the tube with leather and used a pipe wrench. It doesn't budge. I have taken barrels off uppers before and it doesn't take a whole lot of force. This doesn't move with all my might: I can bench press 280. |
Maybe Loctite? You'll need heat if so. Try this first, copied from the troubleshooting forum. |

Ok, I called Bushmaster today and he said to use a strap wrench. I told him that I already tried that, I even tried a pipe wrench. He said, well it is just screwed on there; no trick to it. It might be loctited on there, but it will unscrew. I actually started to try heating the barrel. In fact I did heat the barrel but decided that I must be doing something wrong and never tried to get it off after I applied the heat. |
