after reading the directions for the installation of my vortex, i see they call for a

"G.I. lock washer, 1/2" I.D.---- .109" to .115" thick"

it was not supplied with the FH.

i have found that DPMS sells a "Compensator Lock Washer A1" and a "Peel Washer"... will either/or work? and if not, can you let me know where i can find this or... if i really even need it?

thanks for any help

What model vortex did you get?  The instructions that came with mine say that no washer is required and that adding a washer can cause it to be less effective.

I picked it, new in packaging, up at a gun show here in Reno and it doesn't say the model number... but I do know (visually) that it is the older one that has the two machined ribs around the base and a machined rib around the front of it.

The included instructions say that it is a Sommers FH.

Manufactuer is Smith Arms International... I assume that was Smith Enterprises, prior to a name change because the address on the FH instructions is the same as the address that Smith Arms International has on thier website.

The instructions do say to use a lock washer, but again... this is an older model.
