good afternoon.

i am looking for a riser rail to go on a flat top upper that is longer than the rail i have now.

the problem is that i have a long scope on my rifle and cannot get proper eye relief and cheek weld.  it looks to me like i need a rail that is maybe 4" longer than the one on the rifle.

does anyone know where i might find such an animal?

i guess i could make one.  got a machine shop right outside my door.  i am looking for the easy way out.

thanks in advance.

peace.

The A.R.M.S. Swan Sleeve is what you're looking for.

RRA makes a scout rail that does just what you want.  Got mine from PK Firearms for $65.

GG&G  has one of their fire rails  that fits your specs.  i believe it is called the GS-1.  i have one on order, hope it comes in soon.

The GS-1 is advertised as going 3" over the handguards:

I have a Scout length rail from them, and it works ok.  It's too easy to strip the screws, though, IMHO, something I've never had a problem with in ARMS products.

The RRA scout rail is much higher than the GG&G and ARMS offerings.  This may or may not be an advantage.  Personally, I have never found use for a rail that high.

If you don't want the rear sight, I would go with the ARMS 36 S-EX ($89)

Otherwise, you might want the ARMS #38 S-EX ($180)

good morning.

thanks to everyone.

i ordered an a.r.m.s. 36 last night.  this rifle is a long range paper puncher/possible varmint gun though i don't hunt much anymore.  i doubt that i will ever want iron sights on it.  if i do, i can put an a.r.m/s/ 40he
i had thought about putting a free float forend on it, but it has a 'pressed on fake flash hider' and i don't want to change the barrel any way.  it shoots /8" groups at 97 yards consistently [if i am].

97 yards because that's where the target stand got put.

i think that the rail i ordered is going to be a little long for my purposes, but i can cut it off.  i like the gg&g rail shown above too, but found the one i ordered first.  i am not a patient man.  as i recall the a.r.m.s. rail is 14" long.  damn.  i am gonna have enough left over to build a mall ninja gun.

the story behind all this has to do with looking for a better high powered scope.  i started out with a 3-9, tried a 6-18, and found a 6-24 that i liked at a gun show last week.  it is l-o-n-g, and longer wiht the shade on the end.  presently i have it mounted with the rings toward the rear of the scope too far for my liking [lots of scope hanging out in front of the front ring] and still cannot get good eye relief.  i feel like my head is hanging off the back of the stock.

as soon as i finish a couple of lowers that i am working on, i plan to experiment with doing some machining of this stuff.

the rra rail looks too high to me too.  i like to keep everything as compact as possible.  it is bad enough to have to use high scope rings.

i like sex too.  wait.  i misread that.

thanks again.

peace.

The #36 excludes the use of a #40 (unless you cut off the rear end of the rail).  I predict you'll be very happy with it; I used one to mount a loopy and it worked very well.  You probably won't see much need to cut the excess forward rail off (other than aesthetics).  The only concern would be something pressing down on it and changing the scope's POA.

Post pics of the rifle when you get done!

This site does often err on the side of political correctness, but the last time I checked, it's still cool to like sex.
