I'm currently building an M4gery. When I get finished, I was thinking about building myself a larger caliber AR style hunting rifle. I see the availability of complete .308 ARs from the likes of DPMS and Bushmaster. They also have a smattering of various parts for these rifles. I'm trying to figure what parts compatability there is between standard AR15s and 308s. Does everybody do their own design when it comes to 308s? I don't see individual or complete parts offerings for 308s the way I do for 5.56. Can I piece together a 308 (like LPK, bolt, carrier, barrel, hand guards, etc.)? Thanks! |
About the only parts compatibility is fire control group and some other pins and springs. Reciever extension and sites also.
Kind of, sort of. The upper and lower recievers are all different between Bushmaster, Eagle/ArmaLite, DPMS, Knight,... Go to the ArmaLite sight and in their catalog they have the parts marked that are the same for their '15 and '10. If you start with one manufacturer you better stick with that one. |
