Ok, after searching, the way you measure a barrel is to carefully put a rod down the barrel untill it touches the bolt, mark the rod, and measure the difference from the end of the rod to the mark.

Min length is suppose to be 16" right?  Guy at the gunshop said it has to be 16.5".  Everything i read here says 16".  I know gunshop guys arn't always right, but still want to be double sure.

I measured mine, and got just over 14.5" without a flash supressor.  I have a YHM-Phantom on the way, and i'm figuring that will get me over the 16", but i'm not sure about 16.5".

Min. length is 16" period.

A 14.5" barrel with a permanently attached Phantom will put you right where you need to be.

Very important.  Anything temporary doesn't count.  Distance is, as you say, measured from the bolt face to the muzzle.

Lots of times gunsmiths will cut down a barrel to 16.5 or 16.25 to give a safety margin for any measurement error. 15.999999" could send you to club fed technically.

Exactly what i wanted to hear guys.  Once i get the Phantom (permanetly attached of course) on, and add a rear sight, i should be ready to test her out, and get some pic's up of my first build.  All courtesy of AR15.com
