I have an Oly CAR-4, but it's post ban. I want to get it to pre-ban config. What do I need to do to re-barrel it? I hate the oly muzzle brake, I'd like to have a pre-ban barrel with the bayo lug and a threaded end. I would also like to gain the knowledge of how to change the components of the upper assembly, and I know that just buying a new upper would be much easier. Any help? If I buy a new barrel with the FSB installed, do I have to remove it to install the barrel? How do I remove the gas tube? Total newbie here (to building them), any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I'm a douchebag, it's a CAR-97. Whatever. Anyway, I got the gas tube thing and found the upper assembly page on this site, looks like something I can do (hopefully). Anybody have suggestions on what brand barrel? I'm thinking DPMS, but a lot of guys here seem to like Bushmaster. What is the difference?
Also, what about the Oly rifle overall? Should I just give up and get a whole new set-up?

Ok settle down.......

Barrel swap is the easy part, finding someone with a barrel IN STOCK is gonna be the biggie.  Check out the EE.

ABC's and R are your best bets.  ARMALITE/BUSHMATER/COLT and ROCK RIVER ARMS.

Thanks,
It looks like Midway has some DPMS barrels in stock, what do you think about DPMS and Krieger?
I'm looking more at DPMS due to price...

Yeah, I know but I'm not building a match rifle by any means. I just want a reliable M4. Maybe in a few years I'll try my hand at a real shooter, right now I'm just looking for the experience and money's tight. As long as it goes bang I'll be happy.
Thanks

Send your upper to ADCO , and have them put the FH on . Lot less expensive than a rebarrel . Save the money to get the real deal later .
