Well i'm new to this site and am glad i found it, looks to be tons of quality information on here i am blessed to know that there are many others out there with the same disease as i (black rifles). I have a few questions in regards to removal of a front sight on my AR.  The rifle is a Colt comp. H-bar post 89 pre 94 ban gun, i want to remove the front site and install a new one with the bayonet lug, my questions are as follows. After i remove the two pins holding the sight to the barrel and the pin that holds the gas tube will the sight slide right off or does it usually take some force (ie) light hammering, will it marr up the finish thats on the barrel? Secondly the flash surpressor, is the threads that it screws onto a standard lefty loosey thread? And when i replace the flash hider do i have to use a new washer on it. In regards to the front site thats on my rifle, it has a marking of YO1 with what looks to be an RI in the center of the O can anyone tell me what that stands for? Lastly, i would like to replace this with a Colt part does anyone know of any sources of Colt front sights the sight is made of cast steel.  I appricate any information you all can provide, thank you and Merry Christmas to you all.

I was thinking of replacing my front sight until a search brought up other posts that this is not a direct replacement deal, i.e. the pins  / gas ports may not line up between different sights and may require more work than just popping pins in and out.

It is, for me, a take it to an ARsmith job.

think he's on to something here

yeah i think its too much trouble too thats why mine are still without the lug. i dont think you could effectively use a bayonet lug on your barrel though.

adco offers a service where he puts a lug on your existing fsb so you have the look of a no-ban and it will also mount up too. just wouldnt use it to bayonet anything

here is a link bayonet lugging

After indexing, the front sight assy and barrel are drilled/reamed as one unit so your odds of finding one that lines up is very slim.  There are new undrilled front sights if you want to try.  Some people use set screws under the sight base instead of dealing with the taper pins but be aware that this does not work too well with bayonets.
