I've used this site in depth in the past for information gathering purposes. This is my first post and I'm also assembling pieces for my first AR build. I really should have spent some more time here before I ordered all of the parts that I did. I'll have spent a little more money than I could have / should have / wanted to, but oh well. Here's what she'll be made of . . . Bushmaster Stripped Lower DPMS Lower Parts Kit Bushmaster CAR Buttstock (no-ban) Bushmaster A3 Upper (basically complete - all parts in upper will be Bushy) Bushmaster 16" M4 Profile Barrel (Patrollman's Carbine) - no-ban A.R.M.S. Swan Sleeve I'm looking at future options such as the . . . Aimpoint ML2 in an A.R.M.S. throw lever mount 4-rail tube - probably a YHM Vertical Fore Grip Tactical Light of some sort Upgraded grip and buttstock -These are all wish list items a long way off. Although I don't have any tools for the build, I used to work with a guy that does. He agreed to loan the tools to me as long as I paid for the return shipping back to him. Heck of a deal don't you think? He also said that I could drive the 5 hrs. to meet with him and he would help me build it in just a few hours. That may be a better plan. I'm doing this for two basic reasons. First, I want this to be my patrol rifle. Currently we have A1's and I'm looking for something a little more compact and up-to-date. Second, I'm the dept. armorer for our handguns and would eventually like to attend a Colt/Armalite/Etc. Armorer's class. So, I thought that by building my own rifle I would have a pretty good understanding of the ins and outs of the AR. This should get me by until I actually make it to armorer's school for the AR. Thank you (it's Thanksgiving after all) for this wonderful site. Actually it will probably just add to my gun buying addiction. Life is rough, and my gun safe is too small . . . Ranger413 |

As a side note . . . I ordered my stripped lower from my FFL about a week and a half ago. When they ordered direct from Bushmaster the estimate on the ship date was 6-8 weeks. WOW! On the other hand I ordered my complete M4 Patrollman's Carbine barrel on 11/22. It was shipped from the factory on 11/24 and is scheduled to arrive on 12/02. It would be nice if all of my parts came that quick. Ranger413 |
| welcome aboard, personally I just launched my M4gery build about a few months ago as a total greenhorn to the world of the AR. This is a great site and I'm sure you'll find some great help and advice. Also, check the equipment exchange for parts, you should be able to find somethings you're looking for cheap there. |

I saved $20 by going w/ the DPMS kit over the Bushmaster. The kit was $44.00 from Brownells w/ my armorer's discount. The Bushmaster kit was $64.95. Assembly of the lower will show if the $20 savings was worth it. I hope so. I've heard no bad about DPMS so I thought I was fine. Ranger413 |
I've had lots of good luck with DPMS lower parts. The savings is always a big plus too. |

Opesus, The rear sight will be the one that is incorporated into the A.R.M.S. Swan Sleeve. It is pretty much identical to their stand alone models. I thought I'd forego the detachable carry handle and use the money I would have spent on it toward the Swan Sleeve. Ranger413 |
