I think my next build is gonna be a "Black Hawk Down" tribute carbine. I have two model options, as far as I can tell from the homework I've done on the era: 1. An early era M4gery (A2 fixed carry handle, original slim handguard) 2. A Colt Commando clone. I think I recall a thread about these several months ago, but can't recall who the manufacturer is of the extended (4" or so?) Colt Commando-ish brake that gets the 12.5" bbl out to 16". Does anyone know who makes it? Also, are any of the major players (A, B, C, RRA, etc) still making an A2 style M4gery (fixed CH) upper? Thanks in advance for any help and/or direction here! Will |

Stickman, thanks for the 411. Can you tell me more about that last build, the Colt Commando clone? How is that barrel set up? I'm also worried about the postban legality of that flash hider/muzzle brake/barrel extension (what do you call it??), since I live in NJ, where we have a State AWB that mirrors the old Federal...what do you know about it? And yes, FWIW, the carbines used in Operation Irene were A2s, as far as I can tell. There is a good thread with some excellent screen captures from the movie here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=207442 Thanks! Will |

That is a pic I pulled out of the pic thread. The version I have is the A1, but I don't have any pics up and running of it. The CAR15 is an 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" FS (perm stuck on) that makes it a legal 16". On occasion, I spend time in Jersey, and I find its "be a victim" gun laws to be pathetic. The CAR15 version is using a FS, so you probably need a preban lower. I think there are a few postban compliant versions that look similar. The ones I've seen have a been a 16" barrel, with the 5.5" FS pulled over the first 5.5". This way it doesn't really hide any flash, but looks the way it is supposed to. I hope that makes some sense.... |

Stick, Yeah, NJ sucks, and they don't allow prebans of any kind, so I need a postban AR to work from. Model 1 Sales is the only mfr I know of that makes a postban Colt Commando, but I've heard they're not a very high quality mfr. BM does make the A2 M4, but's its pricier than I thought. I'll keep lookin', and thanks for the pics and info. Will |
