Will acetone break up dried loctite blue?  I can soak the parts in the stuff if that will help it wick in, and frankly if it chews up the anodizing I can refinish it in KG anyway.

You should be able to break BLUE loctite yourself without chemicals

Blue should come open pretty easy. My preferred method when locktite does not give easily involves a heat gun, but not at full blast. Neither acetone nor the heat gun should hurt black phosphate or black dyed hardocoat, but  it may take off paint...

Well I can get things halfway apart but only with some prying and minor surface damage.  I'd like to get it all the way apart and cleaned up without making it look like it fell out of a ruck and down a scree slope.  I was advised to loctite the snot out of a mount that had some play in it and wound up reassy'ing it on the wrong end of the 'play'.  Correctable?  Yes.  OCD tripping, you betcha...

A neat trick that Mick Strider of Strider Knives taught me is to use a soldering iron.  Only touch it to the bolt that you are trying to loosen.  The closer to the threads the better.  It localizes the heat and should help loosen up the loctite.

Hmm, I like that idea, and it will save me from buying a heat gun.  Thanks

eta - I bet some oven time would work too eh?
